Tips and
Strategy:
Sudoku is a game of logic. No special math skills or
calculations are needed to solve any puzzle.
Here are some helpful Tips....
1) Don't guess around. Only enter a number if you are sure that
is the only choice. Sudoku is not a guessing game but a game of
logic. There is only one correct number that can be entered into
each box.
2) Use the process of elimination. When starting your puzzle,
you can generally determine the first numbers using the process
of elimination. For example, start with the number 1. When you
see a 1, you know that another 1 cannot be in that same row,
column or box. By knowing where another 1 can't go, you can
begin to determine the place it can go.
3) Start with the givens. Most players prefer to start by
working with the number that has the most givens. For example,
if a puzzle has lots of given 4s, there is an excellent chance
you can complete more 4s using the process of elimination.
4) Make notes. Pencil in a corner the possible entries for a
cell. You may know that one box must be either an 9 or a 2 but
can't decide which one is correct. Write that information in the
corner of the box. This note will help you solve other boxes in
the same row, column or box.
5) Enter obvious numbers. After 8 numbers have been completed in
any row, box or column, the remaining number is obvious. Be sure
to write in that number right away. It will help guide your
answers in other boxes.
6) Feeling Stuck? Go through all the numbers, 1 to 9. Start with
1 and systematically scan your puzzle looking for places where
another 1 could go. Sometimes when you are feeing stuck, it
means that you have made a mistake. Check to make sure all the
entries you have made so far are correct. |
